Advanced watercolor: Fall Pumpkins

Welcome Back.  Today I have a more advanced watercolor Fall Pumpkins tutorial to share with you.  We will create this scene using some Fall pumpkins, masking, shading and tree techniques.  The video is a little longer than I usually do but there is a lot going on to create this scene.

I love the Fall.  The weather, apple and pumpkin picking and of course the foliage.  In New England, it’s ALMOST the best season (my favorite is Winter).

I created this scene using Canon Watercolor Paper and Art Impressions Stamps.

Let’s get started.

First I created masks for the basket and (2) for the pumpkins in the basket.  I inked up the basket with Sepia, stamped it on the right hand side and pulled the color out of the lines.

Next, using the masks, I stamped the pumpkins in and around the basket with the sepia.  Using my palette, I added Yellow and Orange to the pumpkins using the Yellow to create the highlight.

I used the small grass inked with the Olive Green and stamped it around and below the pumpkins.  I inked the tree stamps up with Sepia, English Red, Vermilion and Yellow and stamped them behind the pumpkins on the left using a mask to protect the pumpkin.

By adding more water to the branches that I colored with the red, orange and yellow, it creates a base for the leaves to be added to the trees.  I added leaves in all three colors to the base, more grass below the trees and the hint of a sky.

I cut the piece down to 5 x 3.75 and added it to a Gina K Designs cranberry cardstock mat trimmed to 5.25 x 4.  I mounted the entire piece to a Neenah card base.

I really enjoyed creating this project and I hope you will try this technique out.  It can be used for so many Fall cards to send to everyone.  In this time of uncertainty we can all send out a little kindness and be thankful for all we have.
