Gimme that

With Mother’s Day coming up, I thought I would share one of my cards with you.  This Mother’s Day heart card is really quick and easy to create (I know I say that all the time, but it is true).  This is a card for my Mom and I know she is going to love it.

Mother’s Day Heart Card Details

To start this card, I created a guideline with my heart die to make sure the placement of my bouquet would be in the right spot.

Mother's Day Heart
Step 1 – The Flowers & Foliage

Using the daisy bunch stamp, I created three Iris Purple blooms (2 large, 1 small).  I softened them with a damp paintbrush.  Then I used one of the flowers from the Flower Set 3 stamps.  I inked it up using Violet and Olive Green.

I used the left and right round leaves from the Spring Basket set using Olive Green.  I softened the lines and added some free hand sprigs around the bouquet.

Step 2 – The Heart

Once the bouquet was dry, I used my heart die and the marker side of the Sepia marker.

Using my palette, I started pulling the color into the middle of the heart making sure to keep the edges dark and the middle light.  I try to stay away from the flowers and foliage so as not to smudge my bouquet.

Step 3 – Finishing Touches

The painting was trimmed down to 4 x 5.25.  I stamped the sentiment from Gina K Designs onto a piece of vellum and embossed it with Gina K Design gold embossing powder.  The vellum piece was cut down and folded over and secured to the watercolor piece.  By using vellum, you can still see the entire watercolor painting and the gold makes the sentiment stand out.  I love using vellum on cards.

Using scor-tape, I secured the painting to a piece of Gold Metallic paper from Gina K Designs cut to 4.125 x 5.375.  This was then mounted to a scored top folding card base made from Neenah Solar White cardstock.

Thank you so much for spending some crafty time with me today.  I am so blessed with wonderful followers.  I would love to see what you come up with.  Post your projects on Instagram with #AIWatercolor or tag me (@tobin0971).  I hope you have a wonderful day!  See you next time!
