Gimme that

Hi Watercolor Fans!  Welcome back to another watercolor weekend and ANOTHER fabulous release.  I chose to do a simple scene using the new ROCKS and POND sets.  Here is my Simple Things card.  This card is so versatile it could be a masculine card, birthday, sympathy or virtually any type of card you can think of.  When I do these types of cards for my own stash, I leave the sentiment off so that I can add it when I need it.

The Painting

I inked two of the larger rock clusters from the ROCKS set in 569 and 969, stamped them off and onto my watercolor paper.  I pulled the color out of the lines, making sure to leave a highlight at the top.  Now that I am ready to add color to the rocks, I added some 569 and 969 to my palette and just randomly built up the color.  These are so awesome because there is no wrong way to add the color.  I think lots of color variations work great.

Next, I added some 528 to my palette and I started layering in the water.  After a couple of passes, I started concentrating darker color around and behind the rocks.  I added some 565 up close to the rocks.

To create the cattails and greenery, I started off by masking off the rocks and inked the larger grass from the POND set with 249.  I stamped it a few times behind the rocks.  To soften the lines, I added some water.  The cattails in this set are so cute, I used both inked with 969, stamped several times between the leaves.  I added some water to them to soften them.

Lastly, I used some 569, 526 and 528 to create some puffy clouds in the sky.  Finally, I signed and dated my work.

The Card

I cut the piece using the Rectangle Stitched die and my big shot machine.  I placed the cut painting onto a mat made from a black piece of card stock using the next size Rectangle Stitched die. I placed it into my MISTI and stamped the “It’s the simple things” sentiment into the corner using Gina K Amalgam ink. I glued that to a white card base.

Thank you so much for spending a few minutes with me and my fellow Art Impressions DT members.  We love seeing all of your gorgeous and creative paintings.  Remember to tag us on Instagram so we can check out your work.
