watercolor weekendHello watercolor fans, welcome to the 2nd watercolor weekend of July!  We have some great inspiration for you.  I used the new Wooden Cabin scene that was recently released.  I took my time and really let this one unfold…took some pics to show you along the way.

To start this project, I inked up the Wooden Cabin stamp with 969 and a little 569 on the rocks, parts of the tree and roof, where I wanted some really dark shadows.  I used my #1 brush to pull the color out in between the rocks in the chimney first.  I then added shadows onto the rocks, making sure to maintain the highlights.

Next, using 249, I added bushes and grasses in the background, around the house and the banks of the river. I added the mini flower bunch behind the rocks in the foreground by masking off the rocks first.

I pulled the color out of the lines and added some clouds of grass.  Using the small foliage from the mini foliage set, I added some 177 to the tree.  Using different colors of green will set them apart from the background green. I added some 565 for the water.  Build this up slowly.  Make sure your paint strokes follow the flow of the water to show movement.  Add some additional brown to the left of the boat and under the dock for a shadow.  For the roof, I added 856 to the left side, building it up slowly to get a dark color.

Once it is was dry, I added all the little details and darkened up my shadows.  Once I was happy, I signed and dated it.

I love that art deco die from the Journal Die set that I used to cut this out.  I was glad it was smaller so I could hide the funky skinny house look. BTW, I tried to extend it and it did not go well, LOL.

On a side note, sorry for the lighting on the picks, was really late creating this in and it was dark 🙂

Thank you so much for spending some watercolor time with me today.  I hope you have a crafty day!

Like you choice of colors and the way you colored it. Also the water flow and the stone chimney.
